I hold a DipTIRP from the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy, and have also studied at the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, the Argyle Institute of Human Relations, the Institute for the Development of Human Arts, the SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute, the Wilfrid Laurier Faculty of Social Work, Rainbow Health Ontario, and elsewhere. I’m trained in relational and systemic therapies, attachment theory, internal family systems, narrative therapy, psychoanalytic, humanistic, and existential approaches, dreamwork, and restorative justice/transformative mental health paradigms. My non-clinical degrees are in the humanities: an MA in Philosophy and Art from SUNY Stonybrook, and a BA in Contemporary Studies from the University of King’s College, Halifax.
I’m committed to deepening and evolving my practice through continual learning (and unlearning). Currently I’m completing a program in group facilitation at The Psychotherapy Institute, and a training series in transformative mental health at the Institute for the Development of Human Arts. I participate regularly in workshops and conferences, and maintain regular (and confidential) case supervision with advanced clinicians.
I provide therapy online, and will soon offer an in-person option in Montreal. Discrepancies in criteria between provinces mean that, while I am accredited as a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, I do not meet (the generally more medicalized) requirements for practising psychotherapy in Quebec, where I practise therapy as a naturopath (nd) with membership in the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists of Canada.
Regardless of location, my therapy approach remains holistic, person-centred and depth-oriented. My assessments and interventions follow non-pathologizing models, and while I welcome clients with and without formal mental health diagnoses, I myself do not diagnose, prescribe, or provide treatment for mental illness. Where psychological/psychiatric treatment is required, I’m happy to refer out and/or to coordinate care with other professionals.
